 Hospital Description

Celebrating 90 years of existence in Tanzania, the clinics and hospitals of the Aga Khan Health Service make the Service the longest serving not-for-profit private health care institution in Tanzania. It established its first health Dispensary in Dar es Salaam in 1929.

The Aga Khan Hospital, in Dar es Salaam was established in 1964, as a multispecialty 74-bed hospital offering quality health care for the people of Tanzania.

In 2018, the expansion of the Hospital transformed the institution into a world-class health care facility. A leading 170-bed teaching and tertiary care referral hospital enabled it to provide a significantly higher level of specialised care combining cutting-edge technology with highly skilled human resources. The hospital facilities provide advance clinical programmes in cardiology, oncology, neuro sciences, critical care (including neo-natal critical care) and maternal and child health. All specialties are supported by relevant diagnostics, integrated operating rooms and a sophisticated accident and emergency department.

The Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam is the only hospital in Tanzania to receive the prestigious gold standard quality re-accreditation from Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2019. In addition to JCIA re-accreditation, the Hospital is also ISO 9001 and SADCAS-certified. These certifications are awarded after the facility has met strict criteria such as in-patient safety, delivery of clinical care and overall patient support. These accreditations, combined with a site on the banks of the Indian Ocean offers health care to the people of Tanzania and East Africa that is comparable to the best health facilities around the world
